Crafting With a Conscience

Welcome to Conscious Crochet!

As a long time crochet artist and designer, I have become increasingly curious about how yarn is made, and where it comes from. Like many of us, I have changed some habits to lower my carbon footprint, mostly through what I choose to purchase - both household products and food items. With politics and capitalism what it is today - our biggest vote power, is through what we choose to spend our money on. So, I wanted to better understand how yarn is made and distributed in order to make more sustainable choices in my fiber life as well.

While there are lots of places that discuss sustainable yarn, I felt like I needed to dive deeper. I wanted to know who made my yarn, where does the fiber originally come from, and especially - what are the “yarn miles” from source to hook?

This space has become a cross section of my curiosity, love of research and writing, my crochet life, and my passion for sustainability. I hope you find it useful, fun and full of inspiration on your sustainable crafting journey.

Thank you for being here! Come for the crochet, stay for the knowledge.
